Obesity is an on-going global health and almost 35% of adults are obese worldwide, which results in an increased risk of type 2 diabetes and other health complications. Being diabetic makes it harder to be healthy. Approximately 80% of individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese. And so the best health advice for these diabetics is to recommend them to lose weight. In order to improve their glycemic control as well as reducing their risk of other health conditions.

However, patients that are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are much trickier to lose weight and they are the ones who often face problems when it comes to shedding off some pounds. Luckily, there is a way for that!

In this article, we are going to discuss how the medicine for diabetes can also help diabetics lose some pounds. According to the doctors at the Clinical Diabetes Center at Montefiore Medical Center New York, the American DFA has even approved a 3mg-dose of liraglutide for the treatment of weight loss. Also, a higher dose is sold under the brand name Saxenda.

It is a known fact that diabetics need to have a strict and healthy diet in order to maintain an appropriate weight wherein there sugar levels will be balanced. These medicines not only improve blood sugar control, they can also lead to weight loss which is very beneficial for the ones taking it.

Daily Dose of Liraglutide Leads to Weight Loss

Researchers found weight loss was greater for people who takes a daily dose of liraglutide. Those who are treated with 3 mg of liraglutide lost an average of 14.1 lbs or 6% of their body weight and those who take 1.8 mg of liraglutide lost 11 lbs which is 4.7% of their body weight. These findings indicate that a daily dose of liraglutide is definitely an effective weight-loss strategy for overweight or obese individuals with type 2 diabetes.

It is definitely a great feat; especially because this represents a breakthrough in weight-loss treatment which really paves a way to improve glycemic control. Although, researchers note that further studies are required in order to assess the longer-term efficacy and safety of ligralutide for weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes.

It is definitely already a big step towards goodness that medicines as such can give much more than they intend to. In the future we can hopefully look forward to better innovations which can help the medical world. In the meantime, if you know someone or have relatives that are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, do inform them about the healthy benefit of medicines for diabetes. But they shouldn’t sole rely on this, a healthy diet and vigorous life style is still to be expected from them.
